Meet Dr. Butler
Dr. John Butler is the Director of Intensive Care at the St. Anthony Medical Center and an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at The University of Illinois. His wide range of experience with pulmonary diseases has made him an expert in his field. Dr. Butler sat down with us recently to share some of his knowledge about, as well as some of his own personal experiences with, alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency.
According to Dr. Butler, "There are perhaps 100,000 patients in this country with alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency, but of those 100,000 – because of the relative lack of knowledge of this disease – only approximately 5,000 have been diagnosed by latest count."

You can refer your patients to the "Living with AAT Deficiency" Patient Stories DVD, where they can watch other Alphas talk about their own experience with AAT Deficiency. This DVD includes the stories of two patients, Carl and Debbie, who are currently on augmentation therapy, as well as commentary from Dr. John Butler.
ARALAST [Alpha1-Proteinase Inhibitor (Human)] is indicated for chronic augmentation therapy in patients having congenital deficiency of A1-PI with clinically evident emphysema. ARALAST is not indicated as therapy for lung disease patients in whom congenital A1-PI deficiency has not been established.
